We offer Mountain Biking Tours in Sri Lanka, covering the beautiful Tea Country, jungles, difficult mountains terrain and some of the hardest trails in the Hasalaka, Kadugannawa, Ramboda, Bulutota Passes, Haputale Gap and Ella Wellawaya Road with a chance of exploring the splendor of Sri Lanka in a truly mobile experience.

Itinerary at a glance
Jetwing Eco Holidays can arrange easy riding tours for beginners and those whose fitness might be out of touch. For regular riders who may want something more challenging, longer tours such as the one below could be arranged.

1

Arrival in Sri Lanka, to be met by a representative of Jetwing Eco Holidays and transfer to Cinnamon Bey, Beruwela. Lunch at the Hotel. Afternoon sea-bathing at Beruwela. Dinner & overnight at Cinnamon Bey, Beruwela.

2

After breakfast drive up to Kalutara and proceed to ” Neughatel” Rubber Plantation. Biking in the tracks of the Rubber Estate, where tracks are mainly flat with some gentle climbs and descents. Ride as much as you like in the Estate. Picnic lunch on the banks of Kalu Ganga, which borders the Estate on the southern boundary. Afternoon follow the river passing through villages and then through the Rubber Estate back to the starting point, passing the Rubber Factory and covering a distance of 17 – km. Return to hotel in the evening. Dinner & overnight at Cinnamon Bey, Beruwela.

After breakfast leave for Athwelthota via Matugama & Lathpandura. Stop near the Stream and Waterfall and start the biking from there on the main road up to Morapitiya junction. Turn right from here and proceed on the logging track that snakes along the stream and jungle on the left and the logged area settled down by the villagers on the right. (Take salt/soap or any other Leach repellant) There is a difficult climb and after 4 miles, the road goes through thick forest area, famous for rare and endemic birds in flocks of more than 10-15 different species, large number of endemic trees and plants and animals. After 5 stop for lunch and rest near a stream. Proceed for about 8 miles and then return to Athwelthota and to the vehicle. Evening return to hotel. Dinner and overnight at Cinnamon Bey.

After breakfast start biking from the Rest House to Rakwana, a beautiful drive through the Tea Estates and rural areas on the scenic Hayes / Lauderdale stretch. After 10 miles stop for Tea and a short break and then start cycling. The climb ends at Suriyakanda, and then go down the “Bulutota Pass”, with 07 hair-pin bends and is one of the most beautiful stretches on this road. Stop at Rakwana. Lunch at Rakwana Rest House. After lunch leave by vehicle for Embilipitiya via Madampe and Pallebedda. Dinner & overnight at Centuria Hotel. Embilipitiya.

Early morning leave for Udawalawe National Park by Jeep to see wild animals including Elephant, Spotted Deer, Sambhur, Crocodile, Wild Boar, Wild Buffalo, Peacock, Barking Deer, Monkeys, other animals and large number of birds. Lunch at the Hotel. After lunch leave for Bandarawela by vehicle, up to Wellawaya and Randeniwela. At Randeniwela see the monument and start the biking via Ella to Bandarawela. On the way stop at the Ravana Ella (1080 ft. high) waterfall and the Ella Rest House for refreshments. Evening reach Bandarawela. Dinner & overnight at Bandarawela Hotel or Hotel Orient.

After breakfast drive up to Kalupahana (Haputale-Belihuloya road ) and start the biking from “Weerakoonegama” to Horton Plains via Udaweriya Estate. On the way see Bambarakanda Falls (790 ft. high) the highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. The biking to Horton Plains on this road is very difficult but is a beautiful route. At Horton Plains walk through the National Park and visit “World’s End”, to see the sheer drop of 3,000 ft. of the escarpment to “Nagrak” Tea Plantation below and to the land at a distance of 7,000 ft. See also the stunted trees & plants Binara, Rhododendron, “Nilu”- which blooms every 12 years, epiphytic orchids, “Old mans Beard” or Sphagnum Moss. Wild animals found here include Leopard, Fishing Cat, Barking Deer, Sambhur, Bear Monkey and Rusty Spotted Cat. Picnic lunch in the park. After lunch bike downhill up to Pattipola (6 miles away) and travel by vehicle to Nuwara Eliya. Dinner & overnight at Jetwing St. Andrew’s, Nuwara Eliya

Morning relax at Nuwara Eliya. Lunch at the Hotel. Afternoon visit Hakgala Botanical Gardens, drive round Lake Gregory, visit Moon Plains and Elk Plains, drive in the Hill Club, Grand Hotel, and Golf Course area. Also visit the Market and Victoria Park. Dinner & overnight at Jetwing St. Andrew’s, Nuwara Eliya.

After breakfast leave for Mahiyangana via Ragala / Watumulla / Nildandahinna /Minipe to Mahiyangana. See the 6th Century B.C. Dagaba, and the Veddas: the Aborigines of Sri Lanka. Lunch at the Tourist Board Rest House, Mahiyangana. After lunch drive up to Hasalaka Town and start the biking up the mountains to Hunasgiriya, through the most difficult pass with 18 hair-pin bends. Biking tour ends of Hunasgiriya. At Hunasgiriya get into the vehicle and leave for Elkaduwa. Dinner & overnight at Hunas Falls by Amaya, Elkaduwa.

Relax in the Hotel. Walk in the Hotel plantation or the mountains. See Hunas Falls (175 ft. high) or bath in the pool of the hotel. Lunch at the hotel. Afternoon play a game of golf in the 6-hole 3-par min-golf course of the hotel. Dinner & overnight at Hunas Falls by Amaya.

After breakfast leave for Dambulla. Visit a Batik Factory and a Spice Gardens at Matale and the Buddhist Temple – Aluvihara. Lunch at Sigiriya Village Hotel. Afternoon climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress to see the beautiful frescos of the Sigiriya Damsels, Fortifications, Pleasure Gardens, and the remains of the Royal Palace on the Summit. Dinner & overnight at Sigiriya Village, Sigiriya.

After breakfast leave for Polonnaruwa. See the monuments of the medieval capital from 10th – 13th Century A.D. including the Royal Palace, Audience Hall, Thuparama, Vatadage, Hetadage, Rankoth Vehera, Kiri Vehera, Lankathilaka, Gal Vihara and Tivanka Image House. Lunch at the Polonnaruwa Rest House. After lunch return to Sigiriya. Dinner & overnight at Sigiriya Village Hotel, Sigiriya.

After breakfast leave for Colombo via Kurunegala. Visit Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage to see the Elehants. Lunch at the Restaurant at Pinnawela. Afternoon arrive in Colombo. Dinner & overnight at Cinnamon Grand.

Shopping in Colombo. Visit ODEL, French Corner, House of Fashion, Liberty Plaza and Majestic City. Lunch in a Chinese Restaurant. Dinner & overnight at Cinnamon Grand Colombo.
