James Fair

James Fair, a leading writer for the internationally renowned BBC Wildlife Magazine, visited Sri Lanka on assignment to produce a special 24-page supplement dedicated to the island’s remarkable natural and cultural heritage. His journey, hosted and organized by Jetwing Eco Holidays, was designed to showcase the breadth of experiences Sri Lanka offers, from big game safaris to birding hotspots and world-famous cultural sites.

James’ itinerary captured the diversity that makes Sri Lanka so extraordinary. For big game encounters, he explored Yala, Minneriya, and Wilpattu National Parks, where leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and other iconic species roam. His birding experiences took him to the montane wonderland of Horton Plains National Park, the biodiversity-rich Sinharaja Rainforest, and the lush trails of Kanneliya, each offering encounters with Sri Lanka’s remarkable array of endemic birdlife. To complete the picture, James visited Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, delving into the island’s rich history and cultural landscape that forms an inseparable backdrop to its wild places.

Jetwing Eco Holidays ensured seamless coordination across this complex itinerary, balancing wildlife and cultural exploration with expert naturalist guidance and logistical support. The depth of field experience provided by our guides allowed James to gain authentic insights and gather the compelling material needed for his supplement, which went on to present Sri Lanka’s story to BBC Wildlife Magazine’s global readership.
